Clachan Cottage lies at the foot of the Corse o' Slakes, an old military road which winds it's way over open moorland with beautiful sea views from it's gentle rolling hills.
Opposite the cottage stands Anwoth Old Kirk.
An air of peace and tranquility surrounds this
17th Century Kirk where Samuel Rutherford
was Minister an 1627. In it's interesting old
graveyard the covenanters stone
commemorates those who were slaughtered
for their religious beliefs.
In the 1970's the Old Schoolhouse and church yard featured in the infamous cult film
Overlooking Anwoth a monument dedicated to Samuel Rutherford stands dominant on the hill top. On nearby Trusty's hill can be found a vitrified fort and pictish writings.

Cardoness Castle - this c 15th century six storey
tower house and ancient home of the McCullochs
stands on a rocky platform above the Water of Fleet.
This quiet sandy beach is approx 1 mile from the cottage, one of many in the area.
